THE
DEAD PHILOSOPHERS'
SOCIETY

(Archive from summer term 2000)
OVER the last two terms we have looked at many philosophers and issues, often from an abstract angle. This term we take a more practical standpoint and try to answer the question : Can philosophy help us with the problems and dilemmas of everyday life ?

Each week we will take an 'agony aunt' style question and try to answer it through the writings of one of the great philosophers, an idea inspired by Alain de Botton's book, the Consolations of Philosophy. Please take time to read the texts and come to the sessions armed, as ever, with original and even controversial ideas !

We hope each meeting will prove a starting point for more reflection and discussions between yourselves. Please write and tell us your thoughts ! These pages will keep a record of previous weeks' topics, beneath which you will find a notice board and a contact e-mail address for that topic. We very much hope you will send us copious opinion and comment ! Everyone who submits an item for the notice board will have their name published below in the list of contributors.

Have a good term !
