Escher's blue is well marked on the underside, but lacks the cell spot of the common blue. The upperside of the male is distinctive on close examination. The dark marginal border is narrow and the outer edge of the hindwing is slightly wavy, with half chequering usually visible. There are also usually fine pale lines visible around the cell of the forewing, often resembling a set of antlers.
