The ISHA UPANISHAD is a hymn to life, faith and hope. Originating in India some time during the first millennium BCE, it speaks across time and space to anyone  who will hear, bearing witness to the poet's conviction that this living world is the Lord's home and that the path of goodness leads to immortality. Its message is to those of any creed and none, because it tells of what transcends intellectual grasp. To do good is to believe in the power of goodness, against the protestations of reason and the cynical machinations of ego.

This book presents the original, Sanskrit text, together with a freely embellished translation into memorable, metred verse, intended to capture the true spirit of the words. Each of the 18 stanzas is illuminated by a specially composed illustration, designed to complement it and reflect on its message.

Verse 4

Following the translation is a guide to Sanskrit pronunciation, a transliteration and morphological analysis of every word in the original text, and a literal translation, so the reader can form his or her own interpretation of the meaning and not be bound by mine. Students of Sanskrit will find this section espcially helpful.
